What does Chadashah mean & why is it so important?
It seems that in most cases the Hebrew word “chadashah” is translated as “new,” but in reality, in most cases it means “to restore to a previous condition.” It is the mistake of the Greek and English translators to use the word “new” rather than “restore...” that has caused all of the confusion in the New Testament.
The word for “new moon” is “chodesh,” which is from the root word “chadash” which means to “to restore to a previous condition.” It uses the exact same letters in Hebrew (chet-dalet-shin). The word chadashah (chet-dalet-shin-hey) is simply adding the feminine ending “hey”, giving the literal meaning a more definitive beginning - it tells us where the word came from (from the fenced door of the destroyer - the destroyer being God), but it still has the same meaning as “chadash.”
Yeshua instilled in me an urgency to look up the word used in the Korach incident that is translated as “new,” when Moshe said that God could do a new thing. The word that is translated as “new” in Bemidbar 16:30 is a completely different word than the word translated as “new” in most other places. This Hebrew word is “beriyah” which has the root word “bara,” meaning “to create.” So “beriyah” means to actually “create a new thing.” So in this case, the translation is most definitely “new.”
So now lets take a look at the Hebrew word “chadash” used in Ezekiel 11:19, 18:31, 36:26 and also the Greek word in Matthew 26:28 and Mark 14:24, and Luke 22:20 which is “kainos,” which means the same as the Hebrew word. “Chadash” means to refresh or to restore, as mentioned above. This is the same meaning of the Greek word “kainos” in the New Testament. The English word “new” means something exactly like beriyah, and it is this word “new” that has caused all the confusion in the fourth and fifth centuries when most of the changes were made to the gospels and other books in the New Testament. And today too.
We are too quick to trust in our English words. If we don’t study the Hebrew words behind these words, we miss so much of the real Truth. It was NOT a “new” covenant that Yeshua brought to His people - He came to “restore to its previous condition” His people to His original Covenant.
Although many will not believe this, or will have a hard time accepting it, it is the real Truth. We are NOT under a “new” Covenant, and we have NOT been delivered from the Torah (or Law). We have been included in the “restored” Covenant. A Covenant that heathens were not a part of before Yeshua came to earth. Heathens were never under the Law, and therefore were not protected by the Torah. You cannot be delivered from something you were never under.
We were delivered BY the Torah, notfrom the Torah. God opened the “fence of protection” (God's grace) that surrounded His people, protecting them, and let the heathen who chose to believe into that protection. This isn’t the result of some mumbo jumbo confusion of intellectual jargon - it is simply the searching out the true meaning of the words in Scripture.
We have believed the same lies for about eighteen hundred years. These lies were the result of a confusion of the Hebrew Scriptures by the heathens-turned-believers in Yeshua. When the Hebrews were taken out of their lives and congregations early in the second century, they no longer understood the Hebrew Scriptures. In fact, they stopped reading the Hebrew Scriptures, and chose to alter the New Testament writings of Shaul, and then trust in them as true Scripture as the years went by. Basically, a new religion was created out of all these confusions, mistranslations and deliberate alterations to Shaul’s writings (in the fourth century).
These changes to Shaul’s writings, and the taking verses out of context in order to create a new doctrine, were actually the direct result of the influence of ancient Greek culture intertwining the lives of those in Jerusalem, and then in Rome.
